PART II
The Building Blocks for Successful Collaborations That Get Results
Chapter 6 p.119
Deep Listening
The tulip chapter. You have to read the chapter to know what I am talking about.
I recommend putting table 6.1 on an index card (p.121) and taking it with you to a meeting. Then you will know how to communicate what you want employees to do to accomplish your goal.
Page 123 says when a topic is “… complex, emotional or controversial…” use deep listening skills. Aren’t all communications, complex, emotional and controversial?
This advice is very valuable again I recommend page 123 and 124 be printed out and read it before going to a meeting.
Chapter 7 p.145-177
Relationship and Group Dynamics That Affect Collaboration
Natural leadership on page 163 states that if you put a group of people together leaders will emerge within 12 hours. I often work with companies in transition and succession planning. There are times when I will say to the owner, “ Now keep quiet during this exercise I want to see what leaders emerge.” The owner can’t do it. He is a natural leader and can’t watch his ship sink without a captain.
