Chapter 25 Chief Energy Officer

Rule #7 Enthusiasm Attracts More Passengers and Energizes Them  the Ride.

This is very true.  A leader that does not keep the enthusiasm for a project will lose steam and die.

People often tell me they can tell I love what I do, but I don’t see it.  They do, and that’s what counts.

Chapter 26 Love your Passengers

Rule #8 Love Your Passengers

I like this chapter.  The same thought crossed my mind.  With today’s HR rules watch out how you love your passengers.  She then explains how you can appreciate and show love for your passengers without getting into trouble.

Chapter 27 Love Rules

She gives Five Ways to Love Your Passengers, Time, Listen, Recognize, Serve, Bring Out the Best in Them.

I always say the greatest gift you can give a person is time.  If you can listen to what they are saying during that time, great. Acknowledge or recognize them during that time.   Serve them reminds of a place that I worked where every summer the management would cook and serve the employees.   I used to always plan an elaborate Christmas party in the conference room.  No alcoholic drinks but plenty of decorations, games, prizes and food that I prepared.  It was my way of showing them that I appreciated what they did all year long.  The way I brought out the best in them was to always explain the “why” behind the task I gave them.  For example, if I asked them to make a special call to an Accounts Receivable customer, I would explain to them why it was important. I always found that I got more cooperation when they knew the why.  I believe this small display of respect brought the best out of them.

Chapter 28 Fear and Trust

The “leap of faith” being a leader is not easy.  Sometime you have to go out of your comfort zone and take a leap of faith in others and in yourself.

Chapter 29 The Next Day

Rule #9 Drive with Purpose.

Purpose is the root of any project.  I always include that in the beginning of a project by giving background information.  I also use it as a self-check, or audit at the end to see if we accomplished what we set out to do.

Chapter 30 The Team Gets Inspired

George’s philosophy that he received on the bus is now spreading to this team.  The contagious inspiration is what a team is all about.

Rule #10 Have Fun and Enjoy the Ride

If you are in the right frame of mind, you will have the confidence and positive attitude to enjoy what you are doing, no matter what you are doing and no matter who you are doing it with.

I often would get so excited about projects, I would say, “This is fantastic.” and then I would see an odd look on their face and I would add, “I love it, I hope you do too.”  I find myself getting carried away whenever I came up with a good solution or new report.

Chapter 32 The Presentation

The best sentence in this chapter is “He remembered Joy telling him that his positive energy must be greater than anyone’s negativity.”  Of course he had a great presentation, no surprise there.

Chapter 33 Joy

The car is fixed and he doesn’t have to take the bus anymore.

Chapter 34 It’s More Fun on the Bus

George has a present for Joy.  It’s a new sign of the “10 RULES FOR THE RIDE OF YOUR LIFE”  the old one was hand written and difficult to read.

Like I said before this is a good book for the month December.  Every chapter shares perils of wisdom that can help make a difference if you are going through a rough time.
